**Job Description:**
**Senior Design Technician – Road Engineering and 3D Modeling**
Our transportation infrastructure expertise team is looking for a **Senior Design Technician – Road Engineering and 3D Modeling** to join our Montreal or Quebec City office.
Reporting to technical management and working in collaboration with engineers, project managers, and other disciplines, you will act as a technical lead for complex, multidisciplinary road projects. You will be involved in all stages of design, from analyzing baseline data to producing plans, 3D models, quantities, and construction deliverables.
Using your expertise, you will guide less experienced designers and drafters, contribute to solving complex issues, and ensure the quality and compliance of deliverables. You will work primarily with OpenRoads, integrated into the iTwin platform.
**Responsibilities:**
**Design and Modeling**
- Carry out and provide technical guidance for the design of road structures, including geometry, profiles, alignments, earthworks, drainage, pavements, signage, and temporary works.
- Act as a lead designer for specific mandates or project components, without hierarchical responsibility.
- Develop, verify, and maintain 3D digital models with OpenRoads/InRoads, including surfaces, corridors, integration of field surveys, volumetric calculations, and cut/fill optimization.
- Produce plans, profiles, sections, and CAD deliverables in 2D and 3D in accordance with applicable standards.
- Perform technical calculations, estimate quantities, and prepare data required for bills of quantities.
- Anticipate design challenges and propose solutions adapted to complex or unconventional situations.
**Technical Reference, Mentoring, Coordination, and Quality Control**
- Provide technical guidance to designers and drafters in the execution of complex designs and drafting.
- Act as a resource person for road geometry, 3D modeling, design methods, and production standards.
- Guide less experienced members in the use of OpenRoads and integrated digital workflows.
- Provide mentorship and contribute to the improvement of design procedures, libraries, and standards.
- Participate in the evaluation of efforts, schedules, and technical resources required for mandates.
- Coordinate design work based on technical approach, schedules, budgets, and client requirements.
- Perform technical and interdisciplinary reviews of plans and models, and ensure data compatibility between disciplines.
- Collaborate with structural, environmental, surveying, drainage, and other relevant teams.
- Participate in technical coordination meetings with the project team, clients, suppliers, and contractors.
- Verify the compliance of deliverables with MTMD standards, TAC requirements, project specifications, and Parsons standards.
- Participate in the verification of 2D plans, 3D models, and supplier technical data.
- Identify technical gaps and risks, then collaborate with engineers to ensure the quality and constructability of proposed solutions.
**Candidate Profile**
- Vocational Diploma (DEP) or College Diploma (DEC) in civil engineering, technical drafting, or a related field;
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in road infrastructure design;
- Proficiency in OpenRoads and/or InRoads for 3D modeling;
- Solid experience in road geometry, corridors, surfaces, earthworks, drainage, volume calculations, and plan production;
- Very good knowledge of the standards and requirements of the ministère des Transports et de la Mobilité durable du Québec (MTMD);
- Good knowledge of the standards of the Transportation Association of Canada (TAC);
- Proficiency in MS Office;
- Knowledge of ProjectWise and iTwin is an asset;
- Experience in mentoring, technical verification, or supervising designers;
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
This role is intended for a person wishing to exercise technical leadership and act as a mentor and resource person for the team, without being responsible for personnel management or general project direction.
**Working language for positions permanently located in Quebec**
Knowledge of French is required for positions permanently located in Quebec so that the incumbent can communicate as needed with colleagues and partners in Quebec. French training is offered to any incumbent of a permanent position in Quebec who does not have a good knowledge of French.
