Newfire is seeking a Senior/Lead Full Stack Engineer (Node.js + React )

What's the Project?The first part of the project focuses on enhancing the customer’s web registration and content experience to increase gym enrollment conversion and improve content discovery. The work is primarily front-end focused, with integration points into partner gym systems, and includes rebuilding the registration flow to support simultaneous gym enrollment, expanding bi-directional data sharing with gym partners, improving post-registration personalization, and enhancing search functionality and results presentation.

The second part supports the customer’s Commercial enrollment funnels, which involve greater backend complexity due to payment and subscription handoffs. The scope consists of a series of targeted improvements across landing pages, personalization, feature flagging, and testing infrastructure, including integration with payment and subscription flows, implementation of LaunchDarkly for new commercial features, full automated test coverage for new or significantly modified code, and continued support for WordPress-based content delivery while contributing to the broader transition toward Contentful.

Your day-to-day activities:

• 5+ years of professional full-stack development experience using TypeScript/React and Node.js (7+ years and prior technical leadership experience for Lead).

• Strong experience designing, building, testing, and maintaining scalable backend services and modern web applications.

• Hands-on experience working with WordPress, including custom integrations, APIs, plugins, themes, or headless CMS implementations.

• Experience integrating subscription, billing, or payment platforms, ideally Zuora.

• Experience working with Contentful or a comparable headless CMS.

• Experience implementing LaunchDarkly (or a comparable feature-flagging platform) — not just consuming flags, but structuring feature rollouts, experimentation, and progressive delivery.

• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, system integrations, data flows, and service-oriented architecture.

• Experience working with DynamoDB, Amazon RDS, or similar relational and NoSQL databases.

• Practical experience using AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and code review.

• Experience working in mature CI/CD environments and contributing to automated build, test, and deployment pipelines.

• Comfort with rapid prototyping, ambiguous scope, and shipping production-quality concept work — the R&D stream demands iterative delivery under evolving requirements.

• Strong understanding of software engineering practices: clean code, automated testing, version control, observability, and secure development.
• Experience collaborating with Product, Design, QA, and business stakeholders using tools such as Jira, Figma, Storybook, and Jellyfish.

• Strong communication skills in English and ability to work effectively in a distributed, cross-functional team, with meaningful daily overlap with US business hours.

• Ability to work within a regulated healthcare environment where reliability, privacy, HIPAA compliance, and data protection are essential.

• For Lead: ability to serve as the day-to-day technical point of contact with the client, proactively coordinating work across engineering, product, and QA, and making sure Senior team members are set up to be productive.

• For Lead: ability to guide architectural decisions, lead technical discussions, mentor engineers, and coordinate delivery across workstreams.

• For Lead: experience establishing development standards, improving engineering processes, and taking ownership of technical delivery and team outcomes.

You’re a perfect match if you have:

• Build and maintain full-stack applications using TypeScript/React and Node.js.

• Develop integrations with WordPress, Contentful, Zuora, and internal Tivity systems.

• Design APIs, backend services, data flows, and solutions using DynamoDB and RDS.

• Stand up and evolve feature flag configurations in LaunchDarkly to support progressive delivery.

• Use AI-assisted coding tools while ensuring code quality, security, and maintainability.

• Contribute to automated testing, code reviews, CI/CD, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and DevOps to deliver reliable healthcare solutions.

• Translate exploratory R&D concepts (mental health screeners, GLP-1 integrations, clinical adjacencies) into production-quality experiments.

• For Lead: serve as the day-to-day technical interface with Tivity's team, coordinating work with the client PM and ensuring Senior team members are productive.

• For Lead: lead technical design, planning, mentoring, and delivery of complex initiatives across the three workstreams.

• As a Senior team member, you will be expected to actively participate in our hiring processes by serving on interview panels for future roles across the company

Nice to have

• Experience in healthcare, health technology, insurance, or another regulated industry.

• Familiarity with AWS and cloud-native development.

• Familiarity with Datadog for observability, APM, logging, and alerting (part of the project stack).

• Experience with design systems, Storybook, accessibility (WCAG), and responsive applications.

• Knowledge of healthcare security, privacy, or interoperability requirements (HIPAA, HITRUST, FHIR).

• Prior experience with clinical instruments (PHQ-2/PHQ-9 or similar), telehealth, or health-tech incubation work.

• For Lead: experience introducing AI-enabled development practices across engineering teams.
