Job Summary
The Research and Policy Analyst will support research, data analytics, and policy analysis activities within the Institute for Science, Technology, and Policy. Working under the guidance of manager and senior director, this role contributes to workforce research projects by conducting analyses, preparing reports and visualizations, supporting survey administration, and assisting with policy and environmental scans. This role is primarily focused on quantitative and qualitative analysis, research design, statistical modeling, data visualization, and translating complex findings into actionable recommendations. The role will also conduct policy-relevant research and analysis by assessing the workforce, healthcare, regulatory, and research policy landscape.

Key Responsibilities
Research and Analytics
• Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis for the ongoing workforce research and advocacy projects, using data analytics tools such as SPSS, Python, and Tableau.
• Support development and deployment of pathology and laboratory workforce surveys/studies in coordination with ASCP’s measurement and evaluation, marketing, and communication teams; and the ASCP Board of Certification (ASCP BOC).
• Perform literature reviews to support workforce initiatives.
• Support ASCP pathology and laboratory workforce visibility campaign through outreach among coalition partners and non-laboratory related stakeholders.
• Produce tables, figures, and charts to organize and present data in a variety of formats such as research reports, PowerPoint presentations, dashboards, issue briefs, information flyers etc.

ISTP Project Support

  • Advance the Institute’s advocacy agenda by conducting policy research, assist in monitoring federal and state legislative and regulatory activity, and preparing analyses that inform strategic advocacy, government relations initiatives, and organizational decision‑making.
  • Assist with committee coordination, meeting materials, and policy updates.
  • Perform data and software management tasks; leverage data to answer queries, contribute to special projects, and support research collaborations with partners, government agencies, and advocacy coalitions.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and briefings for senior leadership, external partners, government stakeholders, and advocacy initiatives, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and strategic impact.

Administrative Tasks

Support conference and meeting logistics. Maintain workforce resource webpages and related materials.

Program and Team Management

  • May provide guidance to interns or temporary staff.
  • Support compliance with research protocols and organizational policies. Track project activities, timelines, and deliverables.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Statistics, Public Health, Public Policy, Economics, Social Sciences, or a related field, with 3+ years of experience conducting applied research, data analysis, and program or policy evaluation.
  • Analytical Expertise: Demonstrated proficiency in quantitative and qualitative research methods, statistical analysis, data visualization, and dashboard development using tools such as R, Python, SQL, Tableau, Power BI, SAS, or Stata.
  • Communication & Strategic Insight: Proven ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights and communicate findings through reports, presentations, and research products for diverse audiences, with knowledge of workforce, healthcare, research, or public policy issues preferred.
