首席产品经理
Principal Product Manager

Who are we and why should you join us?
BetterHelp is on a mission to remove the traditional barriers to therapy and make mental health care more accessible to everyone. Founded in 2013, we are now the world’s largest online therapy service, providing affordable and convenient therapy across the globe. Our network of over 30,000 licensed therapists has helped millions of people take ownership of their mental health and change their lives forever. And we’re not stopping there – as the unmet need for mental health services continues to grow, BetterHelp is committed to being part of the solution.
As the Principal Product Manager, Network Economics at BetterHelp, you’ll join a diverse team of licensed clinicians, engineers, product pros, creatives, marketers, and business leaders who share a passion for expanding access to therapy. And as a mental health company, we take employee mental health just as seriously as we do our mission. We deeply invest in our team’s well-being and professional development, because we know that business and individual growth go hand-in-hand. At BetterHelp, you’ll carve your own path, make an immediate impact, and be challenged every day – with a supportive community behind you the whole way.
What are we looking for?
BetterHelp is looking for a principal-level individual contributor to own therapist compensation and incentives: the economic mechanisms that determine whether a client who needs care can find the right therapist, in their state, under their plan, as soon as possible. We match hundreds of thousands of clients to licensed therapists across every state and a growing set of insurance plans. How quickly that match happens comes down to the strength, size, and variety of our therapist population, and how quickly we can shift it toward the plans and states where clients are waiting.
This individual will own the mechanisms that drive that supply pool, compensation rates, structure, and incentives, as a product and be accountable for the business outcome, not just the shipped feature. That means close collaboration with cross functional stakeholders, deriving defensible answers to how much therapist capacity we actually need and where, and experiments that tell us how the network responds when we change what it earns.
It’s an exciting opportunity for someone who is deeply analytical and does their best work in ambiguity: able to take a problem where the data is incomplete and the stakeholders don’t yet agree, and still reach an effective outcome with the organization behind it. The problems here sit where product, economics, and clinical operations meet, all while making a difference in the lives of people seeking mental health care.
What will you do?
- Own the incentive system that moves therapist availability toward where clients actually need it, designed to be targeted, measurable, and reversible
- Own the structure and clarity of the compensation model itself: what a therapist can predict about their earnings, and what the model rewards them for
- Define what “well supplied” means for a network like ours, and build the tools and features that close the gap
- Build a compelling and sustainable earnings proposition for therapists, and use controlled rollouts and rigorous measurement to learn what actually moves availability before we commit to it, all within the realities of a licensed, independent clinical workforce
- Incentivize the specific behaviors that create client access, including therapist availability, match acceptance, and continuity of care
- Analyze and quantify the impact of every change we make, then draw conclusions and plan next steps based on actual data
- Partner closely with matching, eligibility, member experience, therapist experience, and provider acquisition. Your systems and theirs depend on each other
- Work cross-functionally with finance, clinical, legal, marketing, data science, and operations, who have a stake in nearly everything this role touches, to get a change designed, approved, launched, and measured
- Participate in setting the strategy and long-term direction for the organization, both within and beyond the context of product
- Own KPI’s and be obsessed about them
- In a nutshell: Diagnose, model, design, test, measure, decide, systematize
What will you NOT do?
- You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
- You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
- You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people are allowed here!
- You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining a sustainable work/life balance. Really.
Can I work remotely?
Yes. We operate on PST and candidates in any time zone are welcome to apply. We ask employees to travel to our San Jose, CA office up to three times per year plus one company-wide offsite to collaborate in person and strengthen working relationships. Travel expenses are covered and reasonable accommodations are made for those under unique circumstances who cannot travel.
Requirements
- 8-10 years experience in a product role with proven success through measurable impact and increasing responsibilities, including experience owning pricing, incentives, payouts, or supply-side economics in a two-sided marketplace
- Super analytical: you can build the model, defend it in a room with data science, and explain it to a CFO without losing either audience
- Deep understanding of unit and business economics, and a proven ability to balance business, clinical, and technical considerations in a product decision
- You know which decisions to test cheaply and which ones you only get to make once, and you can tell the difference under time pressure
- Strong understanding of marketplace dynamics and two-sided marketplace business models
- Sound judgment in ambiguity. You can tell when the evidence is good enough to act on and when the right move is to dig deeper, and you can explain which call you’re making and why
- A track record of driving cross-functional decisions to a conclusion without authority over the people who have to agree
- Excellent written communication. Much of this role is making a quantitative argument that an executive audience can act on
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills, strong attention to detail, able to work independently
Bonus (Great to have, but not required):
- Experience with supply-side economics in a marketplace where supply is labor: ride-hail, delivery, or a professional services marketplace
- Experience compensating an independent contractor workforce, and familiarity with the constraints that come with it
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another business where eligibility and payer rules shape who can serve whom
- Fluency with experimentation and causal inference where clean randomization isn’t always available
Benefits
- Remote work with regular in-person bonding experiences sponsored by the company
- Competitive compensation
- Holistic perks program (including free therapy, employee wellness, and more)
- Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage
- 401k benefits with employer matching contribution
- The chance to build something that changes lives – and that people love
- Any piece of hardware or software that will make you happy and productive
- An awesome community of co-workers
