An overview of this role
As a Senior Program Manager within GitLab's Enterprise Technology organization, you will lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex, cross-functional technology programs that advance our enterprise IT strategy. You'll serve as a trusted advisor and program execution partner to IT leadership, translating strategic objectives into structured roadmaps and measurable outcomes. This is a highly visible role that requires both technical fluency and business acumen, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, align diverse stakeholders, and drive decisions across teams.
You will operate at the intersection of IT, Finance, Legal, Product, and Business operations, bringing structure and clarity to programs that span multiple domains and functions. Whether standing up new capabilities, improving governance practices, or scaling operational processes, you will be the connective tissue that keeps programs moving, risks surfaced, and stakeholders informed.
What you'll do
- Own end-to-end program management for large-scale or high-complexity Enterprise Technology & AI initiatives, including scope definition, roadmap development, resource planning, and delivery tracking
- Define and communicate clear success metrics for each program, reporting status and risk to Enterprise Technology & AI leadership on a regular cadence, and escalating issues with recommended paths forward
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to develop a deep understanding of underlying problems, desired outcomes, and solution trade-offs
- Drive cross-functional alignment by facilitating decision-making, resolving dependencies, and maintaining momentum across distributed teams
- Recommend and implement improvements to program governance frameworks, intake processes, and ways of working across the CIO org
- Translate complex technical and business requirements into clear, actionable work plans accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Anticipate risks and interdependencies across the portfolio, proactively mitigating blockers before they impact delivery
- Model GitLab values and remote work best practices, contributing to a high-trust, async-first team culture
What you'll bring
- 6+ years of program management experience, with a strong track record delivering large, cross-functional Enterprise Technology & AI programs
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex processes and build structured approaches to ambiguous problems
- Experience influencing without authority, earning trust with senior stakeholders, and driving alignment across functions, including Finance, Legal, Sales, and Product
- Comfortable operating at both a strategic level and in the details, switching between executive communication and hands-on program execution as needed
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting program status, risks, and recommendations to ETA leadership and Executive audiences
- Familiarity with Enterprise IT domains such as business systems, data, AI, security, infrastructure, or enterprise architecture (depth in one or more areas preferred)
- Proficiency with program and project management tools and methodologies (Agile, Scrum, SAFe, or similar); PMP, CSM, or equivalent certification is a plus
- Experience working in a remote, globally distributed environment with a bias toward async collaboration and clear documentation
