Strategic Sourcing Specialist

This is a remote position located in any province or state where Graymont operates
The Strategic Sourcing Specialist - Raw Materials (Pozzolan) develops and executes long-term sourcing strategies and plans to secure supply chains and reduce overall costs. This role prioritizes value creation over transactional buying and focuses primarily on developing a comprehensive strategy for the acquisition of regional pozzolanic materials and resources to support Graymont’s low-carbon cementitious solutions (LCCS) strategy.
This role manages high-value supplier relationships and negotiates enterprise-wide agreements while participating in acquisition strategy for pozzolanic materials and supporting global supply chain efforts for these materials. The position shifts purchasing from a reactive activity to a proactive, data-driven strategy. This work directly impacts Graymont’s profitability by lowering the total cost of LCCS production while maintaining quality standards and ensuring a stable, reliable supply of pozzolanic materials to Graymont’s operations.
Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Category Management
- Develop Plans: Create multi-year sourcing plans for critical pozzolanic categories.
- Analyze Data: Review company spending data to identify cost-saving consolidation opportunities.
- Assess Risk: Evaluate global market trends, geopolitical factors, and supply chain vulnerabilities to ensure reliable supply to LCCS operations.
- Assist Acquisition Strategy: Work with corporate teams to assess and evaluate potential pozzolanic material acquisitions and participate in due diligence activities.
Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
- Evaluate Vendors: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop improvement criteria. This will include product quality, supply, and related performance metrics.
- Lead Business Reviews: Host periodic business reviews with critical partners (internal and external) to drive continuous improvement and keep critical information flowing.
- Resolve Issues: Act as the main point of escalation for major supplier performance failures in the pozzolanic material category while working with regional procurement, supply chain, and operations teams to support day-to-day ordering and product flow.
- Foster Innovation: Partner with vendors and responsible Graymont teams to assess and gain early access to new pozzolanic technologies and processes.
Contract & Price Negotiation
- Lead Supply Negotiations: Draft and manage complex Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Requests for Quotes (RFQs), and coordinate with the Graymont teams responsible for these processes.
- Lead Price Negotiations: Secure optimal pricing, payment terms, and service level agreements (SLAs).
- Manage Contracts: Partner with legal and procurement teams to draft, review, and renew master service agreements (MSAs).
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in strategic sourcing, category management, purchasing, or related assignments. Experience and working knowledge in chemistry, aggregates, and cementitious materials, including their role in product quality, performance, and sourcing decisions.
- Preferred industry background: Experience in lime, cement, aggregates, industrial minerals, construction materials, or related manufacturing environments is preferred.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
- Language Skills: English fluency required; proficiency in French considered an asset.
- Travel Requirement: Willingness and ability to travel regularly throughout the U.S. and Canada (up to 50%)
