Important: This is a contract/part-time role: 10-20 hrs/week - rate $40-50/hr

NOPE is an AI safety company with a unique goal; we do not concern ourselves with bio or cyber-risks or other Hollywood-ized alignment fantasies. We are concerned instead with the massive proliferation of relationships between humans and AI and how this affects our wellbeing and societal fabrics. Billions of conversations between people and AI are accumulating into relationships. This ranges children talking to toys, adults with AI companions, or elderly people engaging with healthcare assistants. We measure real conversations and relationships, and the trajectories of risks involved, and publish what we find, so platforms (and society) can decide when and how to act. We build ML models, track incidents, analyze new regulations, and run evaluations constantly on both raw LLMs and deployed AI. We believe you cannot foster safe and aligned AI without proprer governance and scrutiny into AI as it is truly deployed and productized. The eval space in AI is currently heavily oriented to raw LLM evals unfortuntely. We seek to change that. We seek to hold AI labs and products to account for the harms they produce.
Our mission is malleable and always changing, and we search for people who seek to help define that.
The Social Comms role: We are doing quite a lot but are very limited on social-and-community-driving capacity. The incidents and regulations we track, the whitepapers, plus our evaluations, are all lacking our commentary and voice. We want to increase our social media presence significantly and start to be a more active participant in the global conversation around AI safety and alignment.
As our social-comms person you'd take artifacts and research we produce and weave them into a consistent, human presence on the prevalent social channels: deciding what gets posted, writing it, engaging with the researchers, journalists, builders and policymakers already wrestling with these questions. You're a pundit, optimist, skeptic, researcher and writer all rolled into one.
The measure of your work would be whether the right people are actually engaging: researchers, builders, journalists, policymakers, and the ordinary users who sense something is off. No growth-hacking or engagement bait please. We would rather stay small and authoritative than sound like a brand. The work is async, any timezone, and you'd have direct access to the passionate team and to everything we publish before it's public.

You will have a significant say and authorship of our blog (nascent stages still), linkedin, other social accounts, public spaces, and private community spaces that you recommend. Anything relevant to our work.

You'd be a great fit if
· You care deeply about what AI is doing to human relationships and social norms; you're concerned and curious.
· You understand how LLMs work at an abstract level and the flaws they have.

  • You've run or grown popular social accounts before.
  • You write like a person, and you don't lean on AI to think or post for you.
  • You can read a piece of research and find the three lines people will actually care about.
  • You can disagree with strangers thoughtfully in public, critics included.
  • You have a feel for which channels matter, and which ones aren't worth our time.
  • You have experience in civic domains, public-good, policy, trust-and-safety, or non-profits.
  • Bonus: you have already published material relevant to AI and its proliferation and risks.

Please mention the word **AWARD** and tag RMTE0LjIyOC42NC4xMzM= when applying to show you read the job post completely (#RMTE0LjIyOC42NC4xMzM=). This is a beta feature to avoid spam applicants. Companies can search these words to find applicants that read this and see they're human.
