Most QA work is keeping a stable system stable. This is different. You'll hold quality high on a large-scale marketplace that's being rebuilt and migrated while it runs.
There's a live migration from GCP to AWS and a full version 2 build underway.
This is an initial 3 to 6 month contract, starting as soon as possible.
You'll embed into one of our product squads as its quality engineer, alongside a tech lead, a principal engineer, three full-stack engineers and a platform engineer. You'll be the squad's quality lead, owning test coverage, automation and validation standards for everything it ships.
Day to day, you'll write and maintain automated tests, shape the squad's test approach, help manage releases and improve how we deploy.
This is a capacity role alongside an established permanent team, so you'll need to be productive quickly without a long ramp.
**The platform**
This is a large-scale marketplace. Very few platforms handle a product catalogue or transaction volume at this level.
It runs on PHP and Laravel today, moving towards a service-based architecture in TypeScript and Node, so you'll be testing across both as the stack shifts.
The roadmap includes agentic AI workflows built into the platform, retail media integrated directly into the marketplace, and infrastructure work targeting cost and performance at high volume. Much of this is being attempted at volumes rarely tested in a marketplace before, so the work leans research-led rather than routine.
**Who this suits**
A fast-paced environment where the ground shifts. You'll do well if you're comfortable with ambiguity and can hold a standard while things move around you.
**Location and basis**
Contractors engage on a B2B basis.
Fully flexible working: home, office, or a mix, your call. We just ask that you're based within one of these areas:
- Bulgaria: within 80km of Sofia
- Romania: within 80km of Cluj, Bucharest or Iasi
Applications from outside these areas won't be considered.
**What we need**
The essentials:
- 5+ years in manual and automated testing, senior enough to set standards and deliver without close oversight
- Solid PHP, plus one other language (TypeScript, Java, C# or Python)
- Confident across manual and automated testing, and can build, maintain and extend test frameworks
- Hands-on experience with Cypress
- Can own releases end to end: planning, coordinating, shipping to production
- Track record of improving deployment processes
- Strong grasp of SDLC QA: planning, test cases, bug tracking, reporting
- Hands-on with a test case management system such as TestRail
- Comfortable working in English, written and spoken
**Also needed:**
- Working understanding of OOP principles and design patterns
- Good knowledge of CI/CD systems
- Experience with test reporting tools and services
**Nice to have:**
- Playwright with TypeScript used professionally
- Hands-on with AWS
- GenAI tools already part of your day-to-day QA workflow
