The role
The Advocacy Intern-Nigeria will work directly with the Advocacy Officer along with other members of the team to support the planning, coordination and implementation of an advocacy campaign to advance digital language justice in Nigeria.
The role will support efforts to ensure that people who speak marginalised languages are able to access, participate in and shape the digital world in the languages they understand.
The intern will contribute to campaign planning, stakeholder mapping, coalition building, policy engagement, communications, campaign coordination and monitoring. They will support the identification of key decision makers and influencers, develop and maintain relationships with campaign allies, track advocacy opportunities, and help translate research evidence into compelling campaign messages and demands.
The role will provide practical experience in implementing advocacy strategies, campaign management, coalition building, policy influencing, and stakeholder engagement, and communications.
Responsibilities
- Assist in translating campaign objectives into concrete activities, milestones and timelines.
- Assist in Identifying and mapping key stakeholders relevant to digital language justice in Nigeria.
- Develop campaign messages and content around digital language justice.
- Track progress on advocacy objectives and relationship building with key targets and allies.
- Assist with drafting, editing, and disseminating advocacy briefs, blog posts, reports and other materials that effectively convey CLEAR Global’s messages.
- Assist with preparation for meetings, events, and conferences
- Attend a variety of meetings to take notes and share CLEAR Global’s message

Qualifications
The Advocacy Intern-Nigeria should have a strong sense of initiative and an interest in language in international development. They should be enthusiastic about the importance of improving two-way communication with speakers of marginalized languages. The right candidate is an energetic team player and multitasker who agrees with CLEAR Global´s basic beliefs and values and who can work virtually with team members based throughout the world.
- Current graduate student at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS)
- Strong writing skills in English, and excellent spoken English; proficiency in other languages relevant to humanitarian action a plus
- Strong research, analysis and reporting skills, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills, with a very good eye for detail and quality, and a demonstrated ability to multitask, plan ahead and keep track of tasks
- Personal experience of language exclusion desirable
- Familiarity with current debates on humanitarian and development issues related to aid effectiveness, accountability, and innovation a plus
- Previous experience in advocacy in non-profit organizations, particularly in development and/or humanitarian action, a plus
- Proficiency with standard word processing and spreadsheet programs, email and other computer packages; willingness to explore new technologies
- Capacity to work independently to achieve agreed targets
- Flexibility and ability to innovate to find creative solutions
