### About The Role
For over 20 years, SmugMug has served visual storytellers and photographers with software that allows them to present their work online, store all of their photos and videos, seamlessly deliver to clients, and earn money by offering print and photo gift products to their clients. We are a private, profitable, mission-driven company serving serious photographers — from passionate hobbyists to working professionals.
We are modernizing our core product and platform for a new generation of visual storytellers. As a Lead Product Manager, you'll own one of several major areas of our user journey across multi-quarter initiatives e.g. growth, client delivery, or core experience, matched to your depth. You’ll frame hard problems, make high-stakes tradeoffs, build the business case, ship, and measure what matters. You'll connect business and platform strategy to quarterly and sprint-level execution across engineering, design, insights, marketing, and operations.
This is not a caretaker role. We need someone who thrives in ambiguity, builds with imperfect information, and has a bias toward more hits at bat over high precision. This is a roll-up-your-sleeves environment where you'll wear many hats and ship real features to help our customers preserve the precious memories of their clients.
### Your Opportunity
- Own product strategy and execution for a major area of SmugMug's product, operating across multi-quarter initiatives that span multiple teams.
- Stay close to our customers. Collaborate with insights, marketing, CX, and UX to center our customers and their needs.
- Frame large, ambiguous problem spaces — define the problem, scope the value, build the business case, align the organization, ship solutions, and assess how it landed.
- Connect product and platform strategy to quarterly and sprint-level execution through storytelling, roadmap planning, and clear written and verbal communication.
- Drive innovation within your area — applying Lean, design thinking, and first-principles reasoning to find new approaches for a next generation of visual storytellers.
- Build the ROI case for your area, modeling value creation alongside operational costs. Define outcomes and measurement approaches upfront. Test decisions against real-world results and treat being wrong as learning, not failure.
- Help raise the bar on PM craft at SmugMug — value creation, communication quality, roadmap rigor, release coordination, communication cadence, sprint/scrum planning.
- Report directly to the Head of Product Management.
### What You Bring
- Customer obsession. Your first questions are about the user: who they are, what they need, how many are affected, what we do and don't know. You center holistic customer value in all decisions while balancing business and technical constraints.
- Innovation instinct. You've driven new product initiatives — not just optimized existing features — and have a track record of uncovering new value through new approaches. You understand principles of market strategy and growth.
- Analytical rigor. You define measurement approaches upfront. You're comfortable with business strategy modeling, ROI estimation, A/B test interpretation, and light quantitative analysis. You know when to bring in data science and when directional data is sufficient. MBA or management consulting experience is a plus.
- First-principles Lean thinking. You start from the problem, not the convention. You're comfortable making bets with imperfect information and operating in ambiguous problem spaces.
- Design fluency. You value high UX quality, can direct the work of designers in your area, and use prototyping and visualization to align teams before committing to code.
- Clear, precise communication. Written, verbal, and visual — you communicate at multiple levels of detail and actively seek feedback on how well your communication lands.
- Builder mentality. You've shipped in resource-constrained environments. You don't hide behind process. You're hands-on, resourceful, and pragmatic.
- Strong product craft. You've worked in organizations with strong PM practice and you carry it with you — planning cadences, well-structured specs, clear roadmap communication, release coordination.
- 8+ years in product management at companies known for product quality, ideally in prosumer, creative tools, or small business SaaS. Scaling or turnaround experience a plus.
