Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is: An established Australian finance company specialising in helping individuals, businesses, and property investors secure tailored lending solutions. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, the business focuses on understanding each client's unique circumstances and delivering practical finance solutions backed by exceptional service and industry expertise.
The organisation is committed to building long-term client relationships through professionalism, responsiveness, and a seamless experience from initial enquiry through to settlement. Continued growth has created opportunities for proactive, detail-oriented professionals who thrive in a collaborative environment and are passionate about delivering outstanding support to both clients and internal stakeholders.
Role Overview: We are looking for an experienced Credit Officer to play a key role in managing residential and commercial mortgage applications from submission through to formal approval. In this role, you'll assess credit risk, make informed lending recommendations, ensure compliance with Australian lending regulations, and provide exceptional support to brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders throughout the lending process.
The successful candidate is an experienced lending professional with strong analytical skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to confidently manage a high-volume pipeline while meeting service level expectations. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing lending team where accuracy, ownership, and exceptional customer service are highly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
Credit Assessment & Decision Making
- Evaluate residential and commercial mortgage applications by assessing borrowers' creditworthiness and financial position.
- Analyse financial statements, credit reports, supporting documentation, and other relevant information to determine lending risk.
- Make informed and timely credit decisions based on thorough analysis and established lending guidelines.
- Prepare comprehensive credit assessments and present lending recommendations for approval or decline.
- Implement effective risk management strategies to minimise potential credit exposure.
Pipeline & Stakeholder Management
- Take full ownership of loan applications from submission through to formal approval.
- Manage a high-volume pipeline while ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) and turnaround times are consistently achieved.
- Monitor application progress and proactively follow up to ensure efficient movement throughout the lending process.
- Maintain regular communication with introducing brokers to ensure all required documentation and information are received promptly.
- Liaise daily with brokers, loan officers, clients, and internal stakeholders via phone and email to provide updates, clarify application requirements, and facilitate lending decisions.
- Build strong working relationships with brokers and internal stakeholders to support a seamless lending experience.
- Provide guidance and support to team members on credit-related matters when required.
Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure all loan documentation is complete, accurate, and compliant with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and Australian lending standards.
- Prepare and maintain accurate, comprehensive credit assessments for every application.
- Stay up to date with changes to regulatory requirements within the Australian non-bank lending sector.
- Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders while maintaining the integrity of credit processes and delivering a positive customer experience.
- Undertake other duties aligned with skills, qualifications, and experience as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of regulated mortgage underwriting experience across Australian residential and commercial mortgages.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, credit risk assessment, lending principles, and Australian mortgage underwriting processes.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement when assessing credit risk.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining the highest standards of compliance and documentation.
- Proven ability to independently manage multiple loan applications while consistently meeting service level agreements and turnaround times.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to confidently liaise with brokers, clients, loan officers, and internal stakeholders.
- Ability to build strong professional relationships while communicating lending decisions clearly and diplomatically.
- Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise competing deadlines.
- Self-motivated, self-sufficient, and able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
- Proactive, solutions-focused, and committed to delivering outstanding customer service.
- High level of professionalism, ownership, integrity, and accountability.
- Experience supporting or mentoring junior team members on credit-related matters.
- Demonstrated adaptability and the ability to quickly learn new lending processes, systems, and regulatory changes.
- Positive "can-do" attitude with a willingness to support additional business requirements when needed.
Work Arrangement & Expectations:
