General Description
We are looking for a skilled Security Operations Engineer to support the implementation, optimization, and operational support of security operations technologies and workflows. This role will engage in the development of security telemetry pipelines, SIEM detection content, and security automation while providing “Wow Them” service to clients, internal customers, and co-workers.

The Security Operations Engineer must demonstrate strong technical troubleshooting, analytical, and client communication skills. The engineer must lead through influence and apply sound business and financial awareness when making technical decisions involving project scope, level of effort, platform performance, data volume, and client value.

About the North Central region SecOps Practice
The Security Operations Practice is responsible for helping clients design, implement, optimize, and operate the technologies and processes used to detect, investigate, and respond to cybersecurity threats. We deliver consulting and engineering services across SIEM, SOAR, security telemetry, detection engineering, observability, and SOC transformation.

Our team of engineers, consultants, architects, and platform specialists focuses on security data onboarding, detection coverage, workflow automation, platform optimization, and operational maturity. We partner with clients, account executives, project managers, technology providers, and internal delivery teams to implement practical and supportable security capabilities.

Key areas of focus include:
• Creating repeatable and measurable Security Operations services.
• Improving telemetry quality, detection coverage, and investigation efficiency.
• Evaluating and adopting emerging security technologies responsibly.

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Configure and support the ingestion of security telemetry into SIEM platforms using agents, APIs, syslog, and native integrations.
• Implement parsing, field extraction, enrichment, and normalization logic using formats such as regex, JSON, key-value data, CEF, and Windows Event Logs.
• Develop, test, map, and tune SIEM detection rules while helping reduce false positives and identify detection coverage gaps.
• Support the configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of SIEM and SOAR platforms, integrations, and workflows.
• Participate in client discovery sessions and assist with documenting current-state architectures, data flows, SOC processes, and technical findings.
• Contribute to reusable implementation patterns, work instructions, detection content, technical documentation, and service-delivery standards.
• Maintain awareness of SIEM, SOAR, XDR, observability, and emerging AI-enabled Security Operations technologies.
• Execute assigned technical work across multiple client environments while managing priorities, dependencies, and delivery commitments.
• Communicate technical issues, risks, progress, and scope considerations to technical leads, project managers, and client stakeholders.
• Support regional delivery priorities and collaborate with other engineers when client demand requires cross-platform or cross-practice assistance.

Required Experience and Education:
• Two to five years of experience in security operations, SIEM engineering, detection engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience implementing or supporting at least one enterprise SIEM platform.
• Experience working with log data, security telemetry, parsing, normalization, and data-source onboarding.
• Exposure to detection engineering, SOC investigation workflows, APIs, integrations, and security automation.
• Basic scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, or a similar language.
• Familiarity with SIEM query languages such as SPL, KQL, Lucene, or SQL-like languages.
• Bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent professional and military experience.
• Embraces emerging technologies, including AI tools, to work smarter, solve problems, and drive better business outcomes.

• Experience mapping detections to MITRE ATT&CK.
• Experience supporting cloud, identity, endpoint, network, or application telemetry.
• Experience with observability or security data pipeline platforms.
• Client-facing consulting or professional service experience.
• Experience producing implementation documentation, runbooks, data dictionaries, or technical assessment deliverables.
