Looking for Philippines-based candidates
Job Role: Accountant with Bookkeeping Experience
Compensation range: AUD $1,500 – $2,000 / Monthly
Engagement type: Independent Contractor Agreement (with the intention to transition to an EOR arrangement after approximately 6 months, subject to performance and business requirements)
Work Schedule: This role is expected to align with the AU business hours (approx. 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday to Friday) for collaboration, but as a contractor, you’ll have flexibility in how you manage your time.
Who We Are: At Hunt St, we help Australian companies hire top remote talent in the Philippines. For this role, you will be engaged directly by the client as an independent contractor. We are not an outsourcing agency. All of our roles are 100% remote, so you'll be able to work from home.
Who The Client Is: Our client is a well-established Australian professional services firm that provides accounting, taxation, and business advisory support to a diverse portfolio of small and medium-sized businesses. Their team works closely with business owners to help them make informed financial decisions, maintain compliance, improve cash flow, and create sustainable growth strategies. Rather than operating as a traditional compliance-only practice, they take a proactive approach to helping clients understand the financial health of their businesses and identify opportunities for improvement.
As the firm continues to grow, they are looking for a highly capable accounting professional who can become a trusted extension of the team, someone who can confidently handle both bookkeeping and accounting responsibilities while contributing valuable financial insights beyond day-to-day processing.
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Accountant with strong bookkeeping expertise to support a growing Australian accounting practice. This role goes beyond transaction processing and reconciliations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable handling bookkeeping, BAS preparation support, financial reporting, and general accounting responsibilities while also understanding the bigger picture of business performance. You will work closely with senior accountants and business advisors, assisting with client work across multiple industries and supporting the firm's commitment to delivering high-quality financial outcomes. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, proactive, and capable of operating independently with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities for multiple client accounts
  • Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Maintain accurate financial records using Xero and other cloud-based accounting systems
  • Assist with BAS preparation and compliance-related accounting tasks
  • Prepare monthly management reports, financial statements, and supporting schedules
  • Review financial data for accuracy and identify discrepancies or unusual transactions
  • Support cash flow reporting and financial performance analysis
  • Assist with tax planning, support work, and year-end accounting requirements
  • Prepare workpapers and documentation for senior accountants and external stakeholders
  • Liaise with internal accounting staff to ensure client deadlines are met
  • Maintain organised and audit-ready financial records
  • Provide proactive recommendations to improve financial processes and reporting quality
  • Provide high-quality, commercially focused accounting services and support to a diverse client portfolio
  • Assist in researching and interpreting Australian taxation legislation and accounting regulations as required
  • Support senior accountants and advisors with tax planning, compliance, and advisory engagements
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients through effective communication and proactive support
  • Utilise a range of accounting software and technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy across client engagements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years of accounting and bookkeeping experience
  • Excellent technical accounting and taxation knowledge, with a strong understanding of relevant Australian legislation and regulations
  • Experience and understanding of Division 7A Loans, Unpaid Present Entitlements (UPEs), Capital Gains Tax (CGT) concessions, Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), and Self-Managed Super Funds (SMSFs)
  • Proven experience providing high-quality, commercially focused accounting services to clients
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build lasting client relationships
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Proficiency in the use of accounting software and financial technologies
  • Advanced-level experience with Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks accounting software platforms
  • Experience supporting Australian clients, accounting firms, or bookkeeping practices
  • Solid understanding of Australian bookkeeping principles, accounting processes, and taxation requirements within an Australian small business environment
  • Experience with BAS preparation and compliance-related tasks
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger management
  • Excellent attention to detail and high level of accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple client files and competing priorities
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality

Nice to Have
