Zayo is seeking a Senior Account Manager to support existing and prospective customers across State, Local, and Education (SLED) accounts..
The successful candidate will be a strategic business developer who identifies, shapes, and secures new opportunities well before RFPs hit the street, particularly within state/local government, K-12 and Higher Education markets. This individual will leverage a strong understanding of the E-rate process, along with deep knowledge of state procurement and funding cycles, to position Zayo early in the buying process and establish preference before formal solicitations are issued.
This role requires a combination of consultative selling, relationship management, and strategic foresight to drive sales of Fiber, Transport, IP, SD-WAN, Edge, Security, Wi-Fi, VoIP, and Managed Services within Zayo’s Public Sector segment.
Location: This remote work position will consider applicants that reside in the Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
Responsibilities
- Proactively develop opportunities ahead of formal RFPs by engaging district technology leaders, E-rate consultants, and state education consortia to shape project scope and requirements.
- Leverage a deep understanding of the E-rate program (FCC Form 470/471 process) to help customers align technology plans and funding strategies with Zayo’s service capabilities.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with IT, procurement, and administrative leaders across State, Local, and Education entities.
- Generate new sales revenue by promoting Zayo’s infrastructure and managed solutions across assigned territories.
- Present customized proposals and manage customers through a strategic and consultative sales cycle.
- Maintain existing business through renewals and long-term contracts while driving net-new growth.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Solutions Architecture, and Legal to design tailored network and managed service solutions.
- Accurately track activities, forecasts, and funnel development in Salesforce and related systems.
- Deliver consistent sales performance against quarterly and annual revenue targets.
- Represent Zayo at regional education and public sector events, building visibility within key cooperative and consortium programs (e.g., ESCs, Equalis, DIR, TIPS).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of sales experience managing complex, multi-stakeholder accounts in the Public Sector or Education verticals.
- Demonstrated expertise in the E-rate program and ability to align Zayo’s services with funding cycles, RFP timelines, and eligible service categories.
- Proven success developing opportunities before procurement begins, shaping specifications, and influencing project design.
- Familiarity with state contract vehicles, cooperative purchasing programs, and education consortiums.
- Strong understanding of Fiber Infrastructure, IP, SD-WAN, Security, and Managed Services.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills across technical and executive audiences.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, matrixed environment while managing a high volume of work.
- High degree of accountability, financial acumen, and customer focus.
Estimated Base Salary Range: $90,000 - $110,000 USD/annually
The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.
Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
