**About Engineering at Mitratech Legal Solutions**
Mitratech's engineering organization is a collaborative and dynamic environment where engineers have the autonomy to drive technical direction and innovate. Our engineers are passionate about building high-quality, scalable software solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers and the legal technology industry.We're in the middle of an active shift toward AI-augmented engineering — using AI agents and tooling across the SDLC — and Principal Engineers play a central role in shaping how that transformation happens.
**About the Role**
As a Principal Engineer at Mitratech, you will drive technical direction for a significant product domain or platform capability, partnering with cross-functional and cross-country teams to deliver high-impact solutions. You will have a significant scope of impact, influencing the technical roadmap and elevating engineering craft across multiple teams. You'll also help lead the org's adoption of agentic AI tools and practices — from how we review AI-generated code to how we architect systems so agents can contribute safely and effectively.
**What You Will Do**
- Drive technical direction for a significant product domain or platform capability, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs
- Reduce systemic complexity by identifying and leading architectural debt remediation efforts, improving overall system reliability and maintainability
- Partner with Product and Engineering leadership to assess multi-quarter roadmap feasibility, providing technical guidance and recommendations
- Elevate engineering craft across multiple teams through Request for Comments (RFCs) and mentorship, promoting best practices and knowledge sharing
- Collaborate with cross-functional and cross-country teams to design and implement scalable, high-quality software solutions, ensuring timely delivery and customer satisfaction
- Shape how the team reviews AI-generated code and supervises AI agents, and adapt architecture so codebases are ready for agentic contribution
- Own cookbook and knowledge-base standards that make institutional knowledge and best practices consumable by both engineers and AI agents
- Evaluate and help standardize agentic development tools across engineering, balancing velocity gains against cost, security, and quality risk
**What We Are Looking For**
To be successful in this role, you will have 10+ years experience with the following:
- Proficiency in .NET/C# with experience building and scaling production backend services. Plus would be: Python, Java, or Go,
- Experience designing, building, and integrating AI/ML-powered features, including third-party LLM services
- Working understanding of LLM behavior — prompt design, output evaluation, and handling non-deterministic results in a product context
- Hands-on experience using agentic coding tools or AI pair-programming assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar) in real production workflows, with sound judgment on when to trust vs. verify AI-generated output
- Experience adapting review processes, documentation, or architecture to support AI-agent contribution to a codebase
- Experience with relational databases, such as Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, including data modeling and query optimization
- Familiarity with a major cloud platform, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, including deployment, scaling, and infrastructure management
- Strong understanding of software design patterns, principles, and methodologies, with the ability to apply them to complex problems
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and cross-country teams and stakeholders
**Nice to Have**
- Experience with containerization using Docker and Kubernetes
- Knowledge of agile development methodologies, such as Scrum or Kanban
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, such as CI/CD pipelines and monitoring systems
**The Stack Context**
- Backend: primarily .NET/C#, with some services in Python, Java, and Go
- Data: Microsoft SQL Server as the primary relational stores. PostgreSQL is a plus.
- Cloud: workloads run across AWS and Azure, depending on product line
- AI/agentic tooling: agentic coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code) in active pilot across engineering, plus an internal cookbook/knowledge-base initiative for AI-consumable documentation

As a Principal Engineer at Mitratech, you'll drive technical direction on complex problems that shape our customers and the legal tech industry. You'll have autonomy to make strategic decisions, mentor junior engineers, and elevate engineering craft across a collaborative team. You'll also help define what AI-native engineering looks like at Mitratech — from tooling to culture — as we transform how we build software.
We will disclose intended pay ranges in our job ads for US-based opportunities – This role can be performed 100% remote anywhere in the US. **Anticipated Pay Range: $175K – $185K Annually USD**
