Senior Java Developer (Spring Boot/Shopify) - Portugal Full Remote
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Join a global software engineering company known for its people-first, politics-free culture, built on lean principles and self-organising teams. As a Senior Java Developer, you'll own solutions end to end, from design to deployment and production support. You'll mentor fellow engineers and help shape the technical direction of large-scale digital commerce platforms. AI-assisted development is encouraged, and engineering craft is what's valued most.
PROJECT & CONTEXT
You'll work on complex, production-level e-commerce systems built around Shopify integrations and event-driven backend services. Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and implementing scalable backend services and APIs

• Owning your code through development, deployment and maintenance

• Diagnosing and resolving production issues

• Challenging business requirements to deliver the best outcomes

• Driving adoption of new technologies and contributing to the technology roadmap

• Mentoring the team and conducting technical interviews

Working hours are 08:00–17:00 CET. Occasional national or international travel may be required (0–15%, depending on project needs).
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR (Required)

• Solid experience as a Senior Java Developer (Java 17+/21) on complex, production-grade backend systems

• Proven hands-on experience running, maintaining and troubleshooting Shopify integrations in production

• Strong experience with Spring Boot 3.x, building and maintaining scalable services and APIs

• Solid experience designing, developing and maintaining GraphQL APIs

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS

• Fluent English (written and spoken)

• Must be based in Portugal

• AWS DynamoDB and AWS secrets management solutions (e.g., Secrets Manager)

• Apache Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies in asynchronous, event-driven architectures

• OpenTelemetry and observability practices (monitoring and distributed tracing)

• Experience mentoring engineers and taking part in technical hiring

Compensation: €2,550 – €3,350/month net, depending on experience and seniority level.
