Responsibilities
Peraton's Department of the Interior (DOI), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) have identified a critical gap in the federal government's ability to conduct comprehensive Endangered Species Act (ESA) research. While FWS operates an authoritative web-based platform for managing data for terrestrial and freshwater species, it does not currently include NMFS marine and anadromous species data forcing agencies to rely on separate, manual processes. This program closes that gap by integrating marine and anadromous species data into the existing FWS platform, creating a single, unified experience for all ESA-listed species.
Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to focus on compliance validation, defect remediation, and production support activities on a federal data integration program. You will play a critical role in ensuring the platform meets ESA Section 7 regulatory requirements and remains stable and performant through production deployment and beyond.
Work Location: Remote
Day To Day Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support Endangered Species Act - Section 7 compliance validation from a software development perspective, validating decision logic correctness, template content completeness, and consultation routing accuracy
  • Develop and maintain the production migration runbook application-layer components, documenting deployment sequences, verification steps, and rollback procedures
  • Lead defect remediation for Critical and High severity application defects identified during testing, pilot consultations, and government demonstrations
  • Support post-deployment monitoring of system availability, species list accuracy, logic performance, and user-reported issues
  • Implement live consultation feedback into system updates, ensuring iterative improvements are incorporated throughout the production period
  • Contribute to the Production Deployment Report, documenting deployment outcomes and post-deployment monitoring results
  • Support the development of the Final Operational Playbooks by documenting application-layer operational procedures and maintenance workflows
  • Enforce code review requirements and maintain all code in the version-controlled repository

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree and 8 years professional experience or a Masters degree and 6 years professional experience or an Associates degree and 10 years professional experience; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 12 years’ professional experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
  • Extensive experience supporting compliance validation activities on federal regulatory systems
  • Experience developing and executing production migration runbooks and rollback procedures
  • Experience with REST API integration and application-layer monitoring for production federal systems
  • Strong defect remediation and root cause analysis skills
  • Proficiency in Java, Python, or equivalent backend development languages

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's/ Master's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or Enterprise Architecture or a related technical field is strongly preferred
  • TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification
  • Experience with Databricks, Delta Lake, or cloud data lakehouse architecture on AWS
