Due to continued growth, our Power Delivery group is seeking a Substation Designer– Physical Designer in one of the following office locations:
- Houston, TX
- Orlando, FL
- Overland Park, KS
- Covington, LA (Hybrid)
- Kennesaw, GA
- Remote
- This position may be filled as a Drafter or Designer. Job title and job level will be determined based upon candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Imagine a day where you’re designing the backbone of the power grid—drafting substation layouts and details that keep energy flowing safely. You collaborate with engineers across disciplines, solve real-world challenges, and see your designs come to life in the field. Every detail you contribute will help power entire communities—safely, reliably, and sustainably.

Substation Design & Drafting: Develop or draft electric substation drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Conduit Plans/Details, Grounding Plans/Details, Foundation Plans, Lightning Protection plans, and control building layouts. Work closely with the Civil Engineering department to develop substation foundation and structure detail drawings

Engineering Analysis & Calculations: Perform basic substation design calculations lightning protection, voltage drop, and conduit fill

Collaboration & Quality Assurance: Work closely with peers to ensure accurate and on-time delivery of electrical design that meets client and industry standards, specifications, and good engineering practices

Field Support: Providing on-site technical support for select ENERCON clients during construction and commissioning as required
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in Substation drafting and/or designing, with a primary focus on executing physical drafting and/or design projects
- Experience with MicroStation and AutoCAD
- Willingness to enter energized electric substations with proper training and PPE
- Must be self-driven in time management to meet deadlines and provide accurate deliverables, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
- Must be proficient with typical office software including Microsoft Windows and Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Willingness to travel for client site visits and project meetings
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of experience in Substation drafting and/or designing, with a primary focus on executing physical drafting and/or design projects
- Experience working in electric utility industry, preferably in fast-paced consulting environment
- 500kV substation design experience
Compensation Range
USD $54,400.00 - USD $90,000.00 /Yr.
